Hello there, travelers!
Our journey continues into the great fortress of Stormhall, where generations of dwarves have built their legacy deep within the imposing Broken Mountains.
Carved into the mossy stone, this vast fortress houses the well-curated past alongside the ambitious future of all dwarvenkind.
From the outside, Stormhall might appear as a silent home of pride and repose… Yet things are not as they seem.
The water flowing through its canals. The distant clang of hammers. The hiss of steam escaping from rattling pipes. The warm glow of the Steamfactories illuminating the darkness.
This is the sound of a civilization that never truly stood still.
MEET THE DWARVES OF STORMHALL (PLAYABLE RACE)
Short and stout, the dwarves are prideful defenders of history and tradition, as well as pioneers in the fields of science and mining. They have perfected the art of stone carving over countless generations, and their status as legendary craftsmen is known far and wide.
However, a blackened history has plagued these people since time immemorial.
From fights over supremacy among themselves to defending their people against cruel adversaries, the dwarves have faced countless hardships in the past. Loss and grief are as much a part of dwarven records as are great triumphs. Still, their kind prevails against all odds, a testament to their unyielding spirit.

THE FOUNDATIONS OF DWARVENKIND
Stormhall was built centuries ago, when the dwarven clans were united under High King Gravelheart. Born from the wish to not repeat the mistakes of the Thanes of old, he proclaimed the city as a refuge for all dwarves that had lost their way and home. Since then, it has grown into a gathering place for clans, miners, scholars, craftsmen, and inventors from across dwarven society.

Whatever purpose brings them to the city, every dwarf will find a place within the many districts of Stormhall.
- The Ring of Erudition preserves thousands of years of knowledge.
- The Grand Chamber is where the High King and the Council shape the future of the fortress.
- The Steamfactories transform metal, water, and magma into new inventions.
- Far beneath the upper districts, the Lower Ranks are home to the Miner's Guild, whose tunnels continue to expand the city deeper into the mountain.
Throughout the fortress, canals, bridges, markets, and halls connect these districts, forming the pathways along which everyday life unfolds.
Gondoliers guide their boats through the underground waterways, carrying merchants and artists beneath towering architecture. Above them, dwarves move between workshops and markets while steam-powered machinery works tirelessly behind the walls.
Stormhall is the sum of all dwarves: a melting pot of ideas and history clashing with one another, where every new creation or discovery adds to its ever-growing legacy.

A CONFLICT OF PERSPECTIVES
For all its ingenuity, Stormhall is a city divided by one question: should dwarvenkind look to its past, or build toward its future?
Some believe the answers to the dwarves' greatest problems are buried in history. The Antiquity Union searches ancient ruins and forgotten tunnels, preserving knowledge so that the mistakes of previous generations are never repeated.
Others are certain that the dwarves have spent far too long dwelling on bygone events. The Steamfactories push constantly toward new technologies, convinced that invention and progress are essential if their people are ever to move beyond the hardships of the past.
Both sides perceive their cause to be the right one. And neither is open to compromise.
Their disagreements flare up all throughout the fortress. From the libraries of the Ring of Erudition to the workshops of the Steamfactories, and even in the halls where its future is debated.
The dwarves are still deciding what should come next, as they always have.
THOSE WHO CALL THE MOUNTAIN HOME
Dwarven society is organized around clans: families whose names, traditions, and influence have been passed down through generations. Becoming part of a clan is not easy for an outsider. However, exceptional deeds, wisdom, wealth, or loyalty can earn anyone a place among them.
One dwarven proverb says: "The brightest diamonds grow in unexpected places."
Greatness is not determined by birth alone.
Dwarves without a clan live outside the fortress, along the mountainside, forming close communities of their own. Without the influence of the great clans, they rely on trust and cooperation, creating bonds so strong they rival those forged by the greatest families.
At the end of the day, beyond clans and lineage, everyday life continues the same for all of them.
Markets fill with the smell of freshly baked bread. Taverns serve family recipes of ales and stouts. Craftsmen work late into the day, while miners prepare for another descent into the Stone Branches.
The gondoliers sing cheerful folksongs, serenading the artists chiseling murals of the great heroes into the walls. In the opera hall, poets and actors alike bring tales of old to life, anchoring the past in the present.
For dwarves, what you build today may become part of someone's history tomorrow. To be remembered for ages to come is a dwarf's utmost goal.
BEYOND THE MOUNTAIN WALLS
Stormhall may lie deep within the Broken Mountains, but its people have never stopped looking beyond them.
Far from home, dwarven scholars and explorers travel in search of forgotten civilizations, ancient ruins, and stories that might reveal more about the enigmatic past of the world.
Members of the Antiquity Union even undertake solitary journeys across the world, recording the stories and memories of the people they encounter.
Called Bookbeards, these students distinguish themselves by the large rucksacks strapped to their backs. They are filled with scrolls, tablets and books, each of them telling a different tale. To them, no story is too ordinary to preserve. Because somewhere within every story, there may be something worth remembering.
The engineers of the Steamfactories, on the other hand, follow their own path. Outside the familiar walls of the mountain, they search for ways to usher in a new age for dwarvenkind.
The ruins of old can serve as stepping stones for innovation and progress. With them, they can carve a path beyond what was once thought possible.
To reach heights no dwarf has ever reached before.
